To implement the university’s overall requirements for fire safety management and to enhance the fire safety awareness and emergency response capabilities of foreign faculty and international students, on the afternoon of November 20, the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, in collaboration with the Security Office and the Chikan Fire and Rescue Brigade, organized a special fire safety training and practical drill at Boya Residence. Director Zheng Zhijun and Deputy Director Chen Chanjuan from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Section Chief Li Liyu from the Fire Safety Division of the Security Office, Instructor Cui Zhongle from the Chikan Fire and Rescue Brigade, as well as all foreign faculty members, international students, and relevant staff participated in the event.
At the beginning of the training, Director Zheng Zhijun delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the central role of fire safety in campus management. He put forward the safety principle of “building a strong defense through thorough preparation and ensuring safety by preventing risks before they occur,” and encouraged all participants to study fire safety knowledge conscientiously and strengthen their awareness of safety precautions. Following this, the fire evacuation drill officially commenced. As simulated smoke filled the area and the fire alarm sounded, all participants covered their mouths and noses with wet towels, bent forward in a low posture, and evacuated quickly and orderly along the designated escape routes to the safe area. The drill was intense yet well organized, allowing participants to experience the urgency of a fire scenario while becoming familiar with evacuation routes and escape procedures.
After the evacuation drill, Instructor Cui Zhongle and Section Chief Li Liyu provided a detailed explanation of fire hazards, firefighting methods, the proper use of various firefighting equipment, and key points for identifying and eliminating potential fire risks in daily life. Following the theoretical session, the practical training took place on the outdoor sports field. Under professional guidance, foreign faculty and international students worked in pairs to practice operating fire extinguishers in turn. From the essential steps—“pulling the pin, holding the hose, squeezing the handle, and sweeping the base of the fire”—to simulating the extinguishing of an initial fire, participants practiced diligently and repeatedly to ensure correct mastery of the techniques.
Foreign faculty and international students expressed that they benefited greatly from the activity. Turkish faculty member Alkim commented, “I participated in a fire safety training organized by the university two years ago, but today’s drill has given me a more comprehensive understanding of fire prevention and firefighting.” Nana, an international student from Mongolia, said, “This drill taught me practical firefighting skills. If I encounter a fire in the future, I will be better prepared to respond.”
This fire safety training and practical drill not only effectively enhanced the fire safety awareness and emergency response capabilities of foreign faculty and international students, but also further strengthened the foundation of campus safety. Going forward, the university will continue to reinforce fire safety management, regularly carry out inspections and rectification of fire hazards, and conduct routine fire safety training and drills. By continuously improving the campus safety prevention and control system, the university is committed to creating a safe and stable campus environment for all faculty and students.
