LNU News Center: on the morning of December 4, the Sharing Conference and Closing Ceremony for the 5th Lingnan Tour by Excellent Taiwan Students in Guangdong was held at the International Conference Hall. Wang Zhenyu, Deputy Chief of Bureau of Exchange of State Council Taiwan Affairs Office; Huang Dahai, Deputy Secretary of CPC LNU Committee; Liu Xiaoqing, Standing Director of Guangdong Province Cross-Strait Exchange Promotion Association; Mo Daiyou, Zhenjiang Office of Taiwan Affairs; Xiao Jianchun, Deputy Director of LNU Office of Taiwan Affairs, were present at the closing ceremony.
“The participants of Lingnan Tour are all excellent young men with thoughts, knowledge and ambition”, said Wang Zhenyu, hoping that the Taiwan students would be able to stay focused in their study, become friends with mainland peers, make intensified efforts on their way to success as the old Taiwan compatriots did, should the responsibility of the era and the people, promote the cross-Strait exchange and peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and eliminate the misunderstanding among Taiwan people and people in the mainland.” Wang also noted that China cares about the well-beings of Taiwan people, and the central government has and is formulating a number of new policies to facilitate Taiwan people’s living and studying in the mainland and bring them real benefits.
Liu Xiaoqing expressed his appreciation for LNU’s support for the event. He said that as is known to all, blood is thicker than water, so people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share the common destiny. Over the past few years, Guangdong provincial government has held high the banner that “people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family”, tremendously promoted the educational and cultural exchange between Guangdong and Taiwan, positively established platforms for exchanges between the youth on both sides, and provided favorable conditions for Taiwan compatriots’ study, start-up, employment and living in the mainland. In the meantime, Liu commented that the tour of Lingnan by excellent Taiwan students has actually promoted the exchanges between the youth on both sides and improved their friendship, saying that the short journey ends, but the friendship continues, and hoping that the teachers and students in Guangdong and Taiwan will keep in touch, cherish the friendship; and all members of the tour group will participate in, promote and safeguard the peaceful development cross the Strait and work hard for the beautiful future of the cross-Strait relations.
At the closing ceremony, 8 student representatives from Jinan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Shenzhen University shared their Tour experiences and learning experiences in Guangdong. With pictures, they recalled the whole process of the Tour. During the 6-day event, the students made friends, broadened vision, witnessed the achievements that Guangdong has accomplished in the reform and opening-up practice, got a closer look at the profound Lingnan culture, and had deeper understanding of“people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family”. In particular, the aerial single-plank bridge challenge impressed all students and enabled them to achieve self-transcendence and realize the importance of teamwork. “I was born in Taipei, grew in Taipei, and I am a native of Taipei; I am a Chinese descendent with all exclusive characteristics and features owned by Chinese, and I and pretty much proud of this. I hope t there will be peaceful development across the Taiwan Strait forever, and there will be millions of young people working for the development of China and for the beautiful feature of China”, said Wang Jiakang, a native of Taipei currently studying in Sun Yat-sen University.
The journey of the 5th Lingnan Tour includes: Taiwan Businessmen’s Dongguan School, Jiangmen Taiwan Youth Exchange Base – Fortress Football Club, large state-owned enterprise Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company, world cultural and natural heritage Zili Diaolou and Cluster Village, Zhanjiang Urban Planning Museum, Suixi Confucius Cultural City, Maodegong Ancient City, and former residence of Chen Bin, an honest and upright Lingnan official in the Qing dynasty.
