GMW.CN: Foreign Students Experience Chinese Culture in LNU
2018-06-04 11:03

"Master, would you please tell me if my moves are correct?", 21 foreigners were learning Chinese Tai Chi on the morning of June 4 in the Gymnastics Hall of Lingnan Normal University in Zhanjiang. These foreign friends are teachers and students of the "Confucius Classroom" Summer Camp of Belarusian State University of Physical Culture . They are conducting a 10-day Chinese cultural experience activity at Lingnan Normal University.

The summer camp is sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and undertaken by Lingnan Normal University and Belarusian State University of Physical Culture; it is one of the brand activities of "Confucius Classroom" jointly held by the two universities. The Belarusian teachers and students learnt Chinese martial arts, calligraphy, folk music, cooking, tea art and other courses with Chinese traditional cultural characteristics, visited the Lingnan Normal University campus and the places of historic figures and cultural heritage of Zhanjiang, and carried out sports exchanges, evening parties, folk customs investigation and other activities.

In the calligraphy class, Belarusian teachers and students are eager to try, but they do not know how to use the soft brush, so they have to turn to the calligraphy teacher Liu Yongsheng. After watching Liu Yongsheng's demonstration, the students gradually adapt to the characteristics of the brush, and they began to create their own calligraphy work.

"Chinese calligraphy is very difficult, Chinese martial arts are very strange, the tea art is very profound, and the Guzheng and Guqin are very pleasant to hear. The summer camp has provided us with a rare platform for communication," says Zechka Anastasia. She also think that the summer camp has made her more impressed with the extensive and profound Chinese culture, and she wants to take the experience back to encourage more people to attend "Confucius Classroom".

When visiting the Zhanjiang Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kavizkaya Anna said excitedly, "I was shocked by the traditional Chinese medicine; the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine is so amazing! The on-site doctors who did massage and acupuncture for us enabled us to experience the original Chinese medicine technology."

Sergeinova Maria is busy taking pictures with her camera everywhere she goes. She hopes to record every moment in China. Before coming to China, she was very worried about the language barrier, but the learning experience during these days has made her deeply appreciate the uniqueness of Chinese culture and the enthusiasm of Chinese people. She thinks that China is a great country.

It is reported that as the positive response to "The Belt and Road Initiative", Lingnan Normal University and Belarusian State University of Physical Culture jointly organized the "Confucius Classroom" featuring Chinese martial arts culture and tea culture. As the influence continues to grow due to its diversified courses, both sides are trying to upgrade "Confucius Classroom" to "Confucius Institute". The Sino-Belarus Philosophy & Culture Research Center jointly established by Lingnan Normal University and the Institute of Philosophy of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is becoming a more and more important platform for Sino-Belarus cultural exchanges.
