Exchange meeting

LNU Press Center News: On the morning of May 4, a delegation from Taiwan Dong Hwa University (DHU) paid a visit to Lingnan Normal University (LNU) for academic exchanges and cooperation.

The delegation consists of Chin-Wen Fan, Dean of Hua-Shih College of Education at DHU, Ming-Ying Shih, Director of Department of Early Childhood Education, Shui-Jen Chou, former Director of the Department of Early Childhood Education, and Chuan-Cheng Kao, former Dean of General Affairs at DHU. LNU President Liu Minggui, Vice President Lan Yanze, Zheng Zhijun, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, Liu Huiqing, Director of the Academic Affairs Division, Feng Zongcai, Director of the Human Resources Division, Fan Zhaoxiong, Dean of the School of Education Science, and Zuo Bing, Executive Deputy Dean of the Institute of Education, attended the meeting. Lan Yanze presided over the meeting.

Liu Minggui recalled that he led a delegation to visit DHU in November last year when the two universities discussed about many cooperation opportunities. He welcomed the DHU delegation to further discuss about cooperation. He gave an introduction of LNUS history, discipline setup, faculties, education system, etc. He emphasized the development plan of LNU this year: applying for master's education qualification to enhance its level, accepting the review and evaluation by the Ministry of Education, new campus construction, internal system reform, and accepting inspections by Guangdong Provincial Party Committee. Liu said that LNU needs to adhere to the central position of talent training, hoping that this meeting will help strengthen the in-depth understanding of both sides, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan universities, promote the improvement in teaching quality, and better achieve the goal of talent cultivation.

Chin-Wen Fan expressed sincere thanks to the warm reception of LNU and gave a brief introduction to the basic situation of DHU and the characteristics and development of the Hua-Shih College of Education, hoping to strengthen cooperation with LNU. Fan pointed out that the main problems facing DHU now are the difficulties in enrollment and employment of postgraduates and doctoral students in the future. In this regard, DHU has taken measures such as grabbing real demands, technology research and development, and production and learning services. Ming-Ying Shih showed the beautiful scenery of DHU and introduced the basic situation of the Department of Early Childhood Education.

Fan Zhaoxiong said that LNU has a strong foundation of cooperation with Taiwan universities, with focus mainly placed on special education. He hoped to expand the cooperation into the preschool education field. With the implementation of the second-child policy, there are large demand and high requirements for pre-school education. However, the current level and development of pre-school education needs to be improved. Through the cooperation of universities across the Taiwan Strait, they expect to improve the education level, enhance the faculty quality and expand the cooperation space. Fan deemed that there is a great space for cooperation between universities on both sides of the Strait. The two sides should have more communications and understandings, and be more tolerant.

The two sides also had in-depth discussions and reached consensus on the training of LNU teachers at DHU, the hiring of DHU teachers and doctors to give lectures at LNU in the short term, and student exchange programs.

Subsequently, Fan Zhaoxiong and Chin-Wen Fan signed a cooperation and exchange agreement on behalf of the School of Education Science of LNU and the Hua-Shih College of Education of DHU, respectively.

After the meeting, LNU leaders and the delegation members exchanged souvenirs and took group photos.
