LNU Press Center News: On the morning of November 6, Lingnan Normal University (LNU) held an expert meeting on the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work at its International Conference Hall. Zhang Yanguo, head of the evaluation expert panel and Vice President of Jiangxi Normal University, introduced the evaluation work at LNU. LNU President Liu Minggui reported the undergraduate teaching work of the university. Ten evaluation experts formally started a five-day “comprehensive evaluation” of the undergraduate teaching work of LNU.
Zhang Yanguo presided over the meeting. Attendees include all members of the expert panel, including Wang Zhuohua, President of Yulin Normal University, Wang Wanliang, former Vice President of Capital Normal University, Diao Yongfeng, President of Sichuan University of Arts and Science, Xu Ling, Vice President of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, Pu Xiaolong, Director of Admission Office of East China Normal University, Chen Ming, Director of Discipline Construction Office of Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Peng Biyu, Dean of School of Economics and Management at South China Normal University, Hao Xiangying, Dean of School of Environment at Zhaoqing University, and Professor Tian Zhenjun from School of Physical Education at Shaanxi Normal University, Qin Mingpeng, Secretary of the expert panel head and Deputy Secretary of School of Education at Jiangxi Normal University, Bai Jing from Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, Secretary of the expert panel, Li Nuo from Jiaying University, Secretary of the expert panel, all university leaders of LNU, heads of schools at LNU, and persons in charge of functional departments of LNU.
Zhang pointed out that the review and evaluation is a new evaluation model proposed by the Ministry of Education under the new situation of China's higher education. The core is to take the quality of talent training as a key clutch, highlight the connotative and characteristic development, strengthen the proper positioning of universities, and intensify the central position of talent training, consolidate the quality assurance system for education and teaching, and reinforce innovation and entrepreneurship education. He introduced the main contents of the review and evaluation this time, pointing out that the evaluation is the basis, rectification is the key, and establishing a sound long-term mechanism for quality improvement is the main objective.
Zhang emphasized that the fundamental method of reviewing and evaluation is to measure a university with a ruler determined by the university itself; without fabrication or adulteration, the university should make clear the national education policy, understand its positioning, and adhere to the goal of talent cultivation, and be able to clarify its characteristics and the talent cultivation characteristics of each school. The panel experts will hold the attitude of being responsible for the country and serving the university, concentrate on the inspection work seriously and find out the prominent contradictions and problems facing the university by means of watching, listening, reading, interviewing and thinking, act as a think tank to continuously improve the university's characteristics and contribute to local economic and social development, and lay a solid foundation for LNU to develop into a distinctive normal university.
Zhang emphasized the work discipline requirements during the evaluation. He hoped that LNU should adhere to the principle of being realistic and responsible in the process of interaction with the experts, not arbitrarily or blindly exaggerate its achievements, be honest instead of avoiding its problems, and ensure its normal operation and smooth inspection.
"This review and evaluation is not only a comprehensive test of the undergraduate teaching work and the overall educational level of LNU, but also an important opportunity for LNU to find problems, improve weak links and promote development. It is a precious opportunity for all LNU people to make persistent efforts and make new progress.” On behalf of the university, Liu Minggui expressed warm welcome and sincere thanks to the experts for their guidance, and he gave a report on the undergraduate teaching work.
Liu said that the university, as the only undergraduate normal university in western Guangdong, has taken root in western Guangdong, striving to develop into a good normal university in the region, and made positive contributions to the development of basic education in Guangdong, especially in western Guangdong. Since the "12th Five-Year" period, LNU has made its direction more clear and positioning more accurate, and improved its service capacity significantly. Liu stressed that in recent years, LNU has highlighted the central position of teaching work and comprehensively improved the quality of talent training. The university highlights teaching in an all-around way by developing education comprehensively, bolster teaching by strengthening teachers’ force, lead teaching by reforming and model innovation, support teaching by pooling resources, and demonstrate teaching by creating talent training characteristics.
Liu pointed out that LNU needs to sharpen its core competitive edge and make innovation in the talent training mechanism, adding that they will fully support and actively cooperate with the experts on their work, and accept the expert guidance modestly to ensure the smooth progress of the evaluation. He hoped that all experts could find more problems and give more advice during the evaluation, opening up new horizons, inspiring new ideas and injecting new impetus for LNU to accelerate development. After the evaluation, LNU will focus on the problems put forward by the experts, follow the spirit of the 19th National Congress as a guide, seriously study and conscientiously rectify, establish and improve a long-term mechanism, and fully promote the undergraduate teaching work to a new level!
