LNU Press Center News: On the afternoon of May 11, a delegation consisting of eight foreign guests, including Lee Mason, Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, and Chris Chang, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, paid a visit to Lingnan Normal University (LNU). LNU Vice President Huang Wei met with the guests at the International Conference Hall and presided over the meeting.
On behalf of LNU, Huang expressed warm welcome to the delegation from Portsmouth. He gave an introduction of the basic situation of LNU from the development history to talent training and discipline construction. In terms of scientific research, talent training, and social services, LNU has made full use of the research advantages of education and psychology, and actively conducted all-round exchanges and cooperation with Lincoln University, Australia and Taiwan. He hoped that this meeting will further promote the exchanges between LNU and Portsmouth in science and technology research, mechanical engineering automation, information technology, marine biotechnology, etc., and expand cooperation with the University of Portsmouth in engineering and education. He emphasized that a good start laid the foundation for future cooperation between the two universities!
Lee Mason expressed thanks for the warm reception of LNU and introduced the basic situation of Portsmouth. As the largest naval base in the UK, Portsmouth has outstanding advantages in economic, tourism and marine technology development. He pointed out that both Portsmouth and Zhanjiang are coastal cities, which create many opportunities for resource exchanges. He noted that LNU has rich cultural connotation and he is willing to serve as a bridge for communication between Portsmouth and Zhanjiang, in the hope of promoting the friendly cooperation between the two cities.
Chris Chang introduced that the University of Portsmouth is a research-oriented comprehensive university, which is composed of five faculties, including Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Technology. In terms of discipline setup, the university has an unified management of art, communication, entrepreneurship and innovation, and combines traditional art with new media technologies. Concerning cooperation, Chang attaches great importance to cooperation with Chinese universities and the University of Portsmouth has offices in Beijing and Shanghai. He said that today's exchange meeting is only a start, and they will maintain positive contacts in the future, hoping to cooperate with LNU in the fields of IT, chemistry, law, and biotechnology.
Zheng Zhijun, Director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, gave a further introduction to the international exchanges and cooperation of LNU and the cooperation with universities in the UK in recent years. He also discussed with the guests about the possibility of cooperation on short-term exchange programs and teacher exchanges. Other attendees include Li Yue, Director of the Students’ Affairs Office, Zhao Jinzhong, Dean of the School of Literature and Media, Ju Yunhe, Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Design, Sun Jianhua, Dean of the School of Music and Dance, Zheng Jianhong, Deputy Dean of the School of Education Science, Wang Liyun, Deputy Dean of the School of Life Sciences and Technology, and Mei Xiaoren, Deputy Dean of the School of Business.
After the meeting, the delegation looked around the campus of LNU, accompanied by Zheng Zhijun and other staff.
