LNU Press Center News: On the morning of January 4, the agreement on Sino-Australia International Joint Chemistry Laboratory on Clean Energy Materials was entered into and an opening ceremony was held in Lingnan Normal University. The newly-established joint laboratory mainly focuses on the research and development of electrode materials for green battery and new production process, development and utilization of photoelectrical catalysts, applied research of key technologies in green energy field, transformation of key technical research results into products and industrialization of these results based on the demands of the market and industry development.

Professor Zhang Shanqing of Griffith University Australia, Professor Wang Lianzhou and Professor Yan Cheng of the University of Queensland, Professor Jiang Xuchuan of Monash University, the Yangtze River Scholar and distinguished professor Hou Yanglong of Peking University, Professor Peng Feng of SCUT and other experts and scholars, Peng Xiangyang, the Chief of Basic Research and Research Conditions Section, Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, President Wu Qixiu of Zhanjiang Juxin New Energy Co., Ltd., President Liu Minggui of LNU, Vice President Huang Gang, Vice President Shao Lexi, heads of functional departments of LNU and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School attended the opening ceremony presided over by Vice President Huang Wei.

“The joint lab aims at the research and development of core technology in clean energy and materials, which can not only help address the huge demand for clean energy and materials in West Guangdong, but also follow the trend of education globalization. The establishment of this lab will bring about positive impact on discipline construction, scientific research and overall teaching level of our university.” Liu Minggui stressed in his speech that as LNU has just been listed as a higher education institution jointly developed in provincial and municipal levels and one of the first pilot higher education institutions for transformation in Guangdong Province, the establishment of the joint lab will much strongly facilitate the construction of LNU's science and engineering disciplines and give rise to an “LNU model” for shared resources and win-win cooperation.

“They see the development prospect and resilience of LNU teachers and students, so they chose to cooperate with LNU.” Zhang Shanqing said clean energy is the key research subject and predominant discipline of Griffith University and LNU has quality personnel resource in this area so both universities can make up a great team. The lab is not only a platform but also serves as a catalyst to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between the universities and improve the academic quality.

The joint lab reflected the idea of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Provincial Department would support the building of the joint lab, Peng Xiangyang said. He hoped both parties can strengthen exchanges and complement each other's advantages to achieve a win-win situation and a "1+1>2" effect on the basis of this agreement.

Zhang Shanqing, Wang Lianzhou, Yan Cheng, Jiang Xuchuan, Hou Yanglong and other experts were employed as the visiting professors of LNU and Liu Minggui issued letters of appointment to them. Dean Wang Sheng of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering introduced the basic information of the lab, and then he and Zhang Shanqing entered into a cooperation agreement on behalf of both universities.

According to the cooperation agreement, both parties will, taking the joint lab as a platform, coordinate in the research and development of applied technologies, develop undergraduates and postgraduates, apply for national and provincial research projects and carry out academic exchanges on a regular basis. Griffith University will also assist LNU in instructing and cultivating young and middle-aged backbone teachers, invite LNU teachers to conduct visiting researches and cooperative researches and share their resources with LNU.
