LNU Press Center News: On the morning of November 9, Deputy Inspector of Li Zhongmin of Investigation Panel of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of People's Government of Guangdong Province, accompanied by Chief Wu Xiaosheng of Culture and Education Division, Inspector Huang Linyan of Overseas Chinese Affairs Administration Division, Principal Staff Ma Biwen of Investigation Publicity Division, Director Liang Chunming of Zhanjiang Foreign Affairs & Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau and other officers (9 persons in total) investigated Lingnan Normal University and had an investigation symposium in the Conference Room 2. LNU President Liu Minggui, Vice President Huang Wei, Chief Zheng Zhijun of International Exchanges and Cooperation Division, Dean Zhao Jinzhong of School of Literature and Media and Dean Xu Zhanquan of Training School attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Huang Wei.
Liu Minggui introduced operation of LNU and said LNU has been committed to international exchanges and cooperation, hoping Overseas Chinese Affairs of Office of Guangdong Provincial People's Government can continuously support and promote the implementation of related work of Lingnan Normal University.
Huang Wei introduced development of LNU's international exchanges and cooperation and the achievements. LNU has a cooperation relationship with Abertay University UK, introduces experts from Taiwan to set up a distinct discipline of special education and collaborates with Science and Education Department of State Administration of Sports in building collaborative innovation center for diving research and technology generalization. He put forward that LNU should focus on teacher education, expand Chinese language education in Indonesia, Thailand and other southeastern Asian countries, be down-to-earth in implementing international exchanges and cooperation programs and contribute to building a high-level normal university. Huang Wei also reviewed related undertakings of LNU under instructions of Provincial Overseas Chinese Office and said LNU would continue to organize expatriation of teachers and volunteers, summer camps and training of overseas Chinese language teachers, hoping for further support of Provincial Overseas Chinese Office.
Li Zhongmin highly appreciated contributions of LNU to advertising the voice of Guangdong Province, inheriting Lingnan Culture and spreading Chinese Culture. He said LNU can make use of characteristics and strengths of the university to enhance the cooperation and exchanges with ASEAN countries while accomplishing pedagogical education to create an influential and high-end Guangdong or Sino-ASEAN normal education & Chinese language education forum in 3 to 5 years. In training of Chinese language teachers, LNU as “Chinese Culture Inheritance Base of Guangdong Province”, can organize the training with regards to martial arts, traditional dance and acupuncture, integrate education resources and set up classes for studies of Chinese ancient civilization and traditional culture in order to better inherit and popularize Chinese culture.
Wu Xiaosheng, Huang Linyan, Liang Chunming and other officers said they would continue to support LNU in international exchanges and cooperation programs to create a better and higher-level platform and carry forward Chinese language education at home.
It's learnt that since Lingnan Normal University was named "Chinese Culture Inheritance Base of Guangdong Province" by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of People's Government of Guangdong Province and Department of Education of Guangdong Province in 2008, LNU has received three batches of more than 130 students from “Zen and Martial Arts Classes” sponsored by Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office to study and communicate about Chinese culture; upon request of Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office has sent 6 person times of teachers to teach Chinese language in Asia International Friendship College and Singkawang Area, Indonesia; 3 volunteers to teach Chinese language in Medan Area, Indonesia and 3 teachers to Thailand for preschool education and calligraphy training of local Chinese language teachers. In June 2012, LNU set up a "Chinese Language Education & Teacher Study" Class Singkawang, Indonesia, which was sponsored by State and Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Offices. We chose and trained for 3 weeks 45 young teachers from Singkawang Teachers Sodality, Indonesia, which had a successful completion and was highly commended by the State and Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs. LNU has undertaken three times the “Tracing Origins - Overseas Chinese Teenagers (Winter) Summer Camp” since July 2015, which was sponsored by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of People’s Government of Guangdong Province and attracted 129 students and teachers, of which 8 people are teachers, from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Poland.
