LNU Press Center News: “We're expecting the beautiful spiritual ‘sparkles’ during the summer camp and hope to make friends and have wonderful time in various activities,” Taiwan student representative Chen Junyu said to LNU student Liu Xiaoyi in the opening ceremony of 2016 Zhanjiang-Taiwan University Students Summer Camp with a theme of “Chinese Dream, Cross-Strait Ties” held in LNU on the morning of July 5.
“The development across the straits lies on young people of today.” Deputy Director Hou Zhenfu of Taiwan Affairs Office of Guangdong Province welcomed the arrival of Taiwan students. He quoted from Giddens Ko, a famous contemporary writer in Taiwan: “The most expensive thing I bought is dream and no dream means no enchantment.” He encouraged students from mainland and Taiwan to striving for the “Chinese Dream” with the “dream of youth”.
“I feel strong homesickness and friendship when seeing the teachers and students who travelled far from Taiwan get together with LNU teachers and students,” Chen Yun, a member of Zhanjiang Municipal Standing Committee and Municipal Propaganda Director said. She said since 2008, Zhanjiang-Taiwan Summer Camp has been the bridge between students on both sides to facilitate communication, enhance the friendship, increase cooperation and carry on Chinese culture. It’s also an attractive name card as well as a famous brand for the exchanges between Zhanjiang and Taiwan. Nearly a thousand Taiwan students came to Zhanjiang for cultural communication and they lit up every summer camp with their young blood and wisdom and talents, which becomes their unforgettable memories for these teachers and students and lays a solid foundation for cross-strait communication in culture and education.
Wu Ching-chi, the leader of Taiwan Delegation, President of Taiwan Normal Education Association and President-General of Taiwan Education University System believed the sky is infinitely broad and young people have limitless future. Zhanjiang and Taiwan students work hand in hand in eight years. Their learning and exchanges may promote national sentiments and play a significant role in the peaceful cross-strait development in the future. Wu Ching-chi added as the leader of Taiwan Exchange Delegation for 4 consecutive years since 2013, he surprisingly noticed the change and progress of LNU every time he led presidents of Taiwanese universities, teachers and students to visit LNU for cultural exchange.
“The students are ambitious generation who undertake the mission of cross-strait development in the course of history.” LNU Party Secretary Luo Hai’ou said students should remain true to the original aspiration, keep striving for the innovation and development and build a dream home by enhancing the cultural foundation and grasping the cooperation bridge in order to keep the pace of cross-strait exchanges and cooperation with the times. He believed Zhanjiang-Taiwan University Students Summer Camp is brought up to a higher level and has a wider scope and much richer contents.
