LNU Holds 2015 Student Exchange Meeting on Study Abroad Programs

LNU News Center: On the evening of December 25, the 2015 Student Exchange Meeting on Overseas Programs was held in Room 311 of No. 3 Teaching Building.

Hosted by the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, the meeting gathered Deng Fengguang, Director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, Li Aiqun, Director-level Cadre of the Students’ Affairs Office, Zheng Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, Wang Xiongyi, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Music, other teachers from the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation and the Office of Teaching Affairs as well as counselors of schools.

After the meeting began, student representatives involved in the 16 exchange programs in the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2015 made reports successively, which earned great acclaim from the audience. He Wenjian who went to St. John’s University of the United States for exchange said that his favorite course at St. John’s was Film Appreciation, from which he deeply realized the Chinese and Western cultural differences. Xiao Min who participated in the German F+U Summer Enhancement Program for University Management Talents recalled that the Cultural Experience Week is what impresses her most, during which she visited several European countries to perceive the cultural differences between countries; the experience broadened her horizons and rendered her to see her own shortcomings. Mo Wenjing who studied Special Education at National Pingtung University of Taiwan mentioned that Pingtung has many practical lessons offering students chances to visit many universities, middle and primary schools, enabling them to have a deep understanding of the special education in Taiwan.

Next was the Q&A session, in which the student representatives answered questions. Among those questions, the ones of most concern that night are how to apply for the study abroad exchange program, costs of going abroad, requirements for language and grade points, and credit transfer.

The concluding speech was made by Deng Fengguang, the Director of Office of International Exchange & Cooperation. He stated that he deeply felt the confidence and calmness of every student who reported on the stage. The purpose for students going abroad involves growth as well as enhancement of self-confidence and ability. The students participating in the exchange program are able to not only learn the differences in customs, cultures and teaching methods between countries, but acquire different ways of learning. They will learn to be grateful and to cherish. Director Deng believes that if students improve themselves to a higher level and make a deep experience, their life will be endowed with thickness and their future will be different.

Besides, the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation distributed the Report on Outcomes of 2015 Student Study Abroad Programs (two versions: Programs in Overseas Countries and Programs in Taiwan) to the participants of the 2015 Student Study Abroad Programs.

It is reported that LNU sent 286 students to attend various international cooperation programs in 2015 to expand their international vision & experience as well as improve the quality of talent training.
