LNU News Center: Dr. Luis Canales, Director of the Office of International Studies and Programs, and Dr. Miranda Lin from the School of Education of Illinois State University visited Lingnan Normal University (LNU) for cooperation. On the afternoon of December 5, President Luo Haiou of LNU met with the two guests, and both sides expressed the willingness to cooperate and exchanged souvenirs.
On the morning of December 7, a meeting between LNU and the guests was held in the No. 1 Conference Room of the Administrative Building. Chaired by Zheng Zhijun, Deputy Director of LNU Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, the meeting gathered Fan Zhaoxiong, Dean of the School of Educational Science, and Sun Weidong, Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages.
Deputy Director Zheng Zhijun and Dr. Luis Canales first gave a brief introduction to the basic situation of respective universities. Founded in 1857, Illinois State University is one of the oldest institutions in the Midwest and is ranked in the top 80 public universities in the United States. It sets up 200 majors under 6 colleges. Characterized by education majors, both universities are carrying out extensive international cooperation.
Then the two sides exchanged views on possible cooperation, making in-depth discussions on exchange students, visiting scholars, teacher training, language courses, and students’ study for master’s degree. The two sides had a pleasant negotiation and expressed the hope to cooperate.
In addition, the two sides held talks on the framework agreement and the rules for the exchange of teachers and students. LNU expressed the hope, in the interests of students, that the Illinois State University will offer preferential treatment in terms of tuition fees. Thy also made detailed discussions on the rules, striving to reach a consensus.
After the meeting, Deputy Director Zheng accompanied Dr. Luis Canales to visit LNU campus.
It is said that the two sides will sign a formal cooperation agreement in the near future.
