LNU News Center: On the morning of November 6, Chairman Wu Limei and Vice Chairman Wang Chengyao of the Canadian Hakka Overseas Fellowship Promotion Association (Hakka Chamber of Commerce) visited Lingnan Normal University (LNU) in the company of Chen Guimin, Secretary General of Zhanjiang People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Deputy Directors Zheng Zhijun and Xiao Jianchun of Office of International Exchange & Cooperation held talks with the guests.
Deputy Director Zheng first introduced the basic situation of LNU. He pointed out that LNU is a comprehensive undergraduate university featuring normal education that started from 1904, and has been playing an active role in international exchanges. It has signed cooperation agreements with more than 50 overseas colleges and universities till now. Last year witnessed over 300 students going abroad for study, exchange and internship, for which LNU was awarded as 2014 Advanced Collective of Foreign Exchange and Cooperation in Guangdong. Zheng pointed out that LNU has recently cooperated with Belarusian State University of Physical Culture to establish a Confucius Classroom and held the unveiling ceremony. He expressed his hope to cooperate with Canadian institution(s), thus realizing the first real cooperation between LNU and Canada.
Chairman Wu Limei then introduced the situation of Canadian Hakka Overseas Fellowship Promotion Association and of Montreal where it reside. Montreal is a large city with rich cultural heritage and great cultural landscapes. Wu introduced the local education and the characteristics and expertise of several local universities, especially about McGill University. She expressed the hope to promote cooperation with LNU in education.
Secretary General Chen Guimin said that this meeting is hoped to provide a platform for LNU to establish friendly and equal exchanges and mutual benefit. He also said that based on the suggestions of people, Zhanjiang will increase its publicity and popularity. The delegation also expressed the willingness to promote bilateral cooperation, hoping to promote study abroad programs, training and exchanges between LNU and Canada.
It is learnt that it’s the first time for the delegation to visit LNU. The talks are of great significance and provide a favorable platform for substantive cooperation between LNU and Canadian universities.
