Peng Quanqun and His Delegation Visit Five Universities in South Korea and Japan for Cooperation

From October 28 to November 4, Peng Quanqun, Deputy Party Secretary of Lingnan Normal University (LNU) led a delegation to visit Cheongju University, Chungbuk National University, Silla University in South Korea, and Sakushin Gakuin University and Matsumoto University in Japan on invitation to discussion the cooperation. Other three members of the delegation include Li Xiaopei, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, Zheng Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange & Cooperation, and Dr. Yang Hong from the School of Foreign Languages. The delegation also visited the exchange students of LNU at Cheongju University and Sakushin Gakuin University to learn about their study and life, and held talks with students of Matsumoto University who once studied in LNU. The delegation received warm receptions from the five universities, during which the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on further strengthening the exchanges and cooperation between universities as well as in mathematics and foreign languages.

 

On the morning of October 29, the delegation put Cheongju University as the first leg. The members first visited its campus and were impressed by its modern radio station, strong faculty and the museum that commemorates its founder. At the subsequent meeting, the delegation heard the introduction concerning the general situation of Cheongju University made by Director Chan of its Office of International Affairs, after which the two sides exchanged views on exchange quotas, exchange approaches, language studies and credit transfer, and proposed to strengthen the academic and scientific exchanges of teachers. Deputy Secretary Peng Quanqun, on behalf of LNU, made a gracious invitation to Cheongju University about students participating in the LNU summer camp and winter camp for overseas youth. Director Chan accepted the invitation with pleasure, and expressed that they will make university-wide promotion to attract more students to join. Dean Li Xiaopei also went to classrooms to observe the teaching, thus further understanding the curriculum planning and practice of Cheongju University. The two sides agreed to sign the cooperation agreement concerning exchange students as soon as possible to standardize the details, especially the credit transfer. The delegation then had lunch with our exchange students at Cheongju University, learning about their study and life and listening to their opinions and suggestions on exchange programs. Deputy Secretary Peng Quanqun said that LNU will make every effort to improve related services, so as to create better conditions for the exchanges. After lunch, the delegation took a photo with the students.

On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation continued to visit the Chungbuk National University in the same city, where they made discussions with staff of Office of International Affairs of the other side pertaining to academic exchange, (3+1 and 2+2) exchange students, LNU students studying at Chungbuk National University and exchange of teachers. The two sides agreed to start the cooperation as soon as possible to create better conditions for the exchange of teachers and students. During the later visit, the delegation was invited to the Normal College for a brief exchange, in which the two sides exchanged in-depth views on normal education, professional cooperation, foreign language learning, and especially the mathematics. After that the delegation visited the campus and the museum with a rich collection.

On the afternoon of October 30, the delegation visited Silla University in Busan. The two sides exchanged views on (2+2 and 3+1) exchange students and LNU students studying at Silla University, and especially on mathematics and foreign languages as well as exchange of teachers and students. The delegation also had an understanding of institutional setup, advanced experience and special practice of Silla University in student affairs management. They then visited the student residences to learn about the management mechanism, space utilization, activity development and cultural education. The delegation was deeply impressed by the setup of study rooms and cultural leisure rooms as well as advanced gym facilities for students.

After the delegation concluded the visit to three universities in South Korea, they flew from Seoul to Japan. On November 2, the delegation first visited Sakushin Gakuin University where they were warmly received by Yoshiki Terazono, Chancellor of Sakushin Gakuin. In addition to the existing 2+2 and 4+2 students studying abroad programs, the two sides discussed 3+2 programs (Students study in LNU for 3 years and then in Sakushin Gakuin University for 2 years before obtaining the masters degree), and reached an agreement on perfecting the credit transfer system. The delegation then visited the campus of Sakushin Gakuin and the members were deeply impressed by the modern library facilities and collections. Afterwards, the delegation held talks with the exchange students of LNU. Deputy Secretary Peng Quanqun greeted the students warmly on behalf of LNU, listened carefully to their study and life at Sakushin Gakuin, and ordered them to strictly abide by the rules and regulations of Sakushin Gakuin, respect local customs and habits, study hard, actively practice, expand knowledge and enhance quality to make success in learning.

On November 3, the delegation came to the last leg - Matsumoto University. They had a warm meeting with Hiroyuki Sumiyoshi, President of Matsumoto University, and had a specific discussion on LNU students studying at Matsumoto freely, the cooperation with our Sports Rehabilitation Major of the School of Physical Education, Vice President Masahiko Yamazoe and Professor Matsui giving lectures at LNU, and Matsumoto University conducting accounting qualification examinations at LNU. Then led by three students including Natsuki who came to LNU for a short-term exchange in July this year, the delegation visited the campus and had a cordial conversation with them.

In conclusion, the LNU delegation visited five universities in Japan and South Korea, during which the members exchanged opinions with relevant personnel and learned from each other while solving problems. It will effectively promote the in-depth cooperation between LNU and Korean and Japanese universities as well as promote the education internationalization of LNU. The teaching and governance systems, humanized dormitory study and cultural leisure rooms, international and modernized schooling, and the university culture and humanistic charm are of referential significance to LNU teaching, administration and student management.
