Belarusian teachers and students experience Chinese culture in unique lessons
On the morning of May 30, the opening ceremony of the 2018 Summer Camp for Confucius Classroom of Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC) at LNU (hereinafter referred to as the Summer Camp) was held at the International Conference Hall of LNU. LNU Vice President Huang Wei granted the flag to Ms. Natallia Kastseyeva, head of the Belarusian delegation, and announced the opening of the camp, marking the official kick-off of the 12-day Chinese culture study tour of 21 members from the Confucius Classroom of BSUPC!

During this summer camp, LNU provided courses featuring traditional Chinese culture such as martial arts for 21 Belarusian teachers and students, giving them an interesting and content-rich study tour of Chinese culture. In the unique lessons, the summer camp members experienced traditional Chinese culture such as martial arts, Tai Chi, tea art, cooking, calligraphy, Chinese painting, acupuncture and cupping, and dragon and lion dance. Under the guidance of the teacher, the students began to write on Xuan paper earnestly. "Learning Chinese calligraphy is very difficult, especially the sequence, length and strength of the strokes," commented Natallia Kastseyeva.

The students practiced martial arts in the Chinese Kongfu lesson. Among the 21 students, some major in martial arts and some have practiced martial arts for more than 10 years. Despite their experience in martial arts, they still practiced diligently.

In the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) lesson, the teacher showed the traditional Chinese treatment methods such as acupuncture, Tui na, Gua sha and cupping to the foreign students. "Does it hurt when the needle is inserted into your body?" The reporter quietly asked the students who had just experienced acupuncture. The student said, "It hurts a bit, but it is very comfortable."

In addition to calligraphy, lion dance, cooking, etc., the summer camp members also attended classes such as basic Chinese reading and writing, ping-pong, swimming, etc. LNU Vice President Lan Yanze issued course-completion certificates to the summer camp members at the Closing Ceremony and Evening Party on the evening of June 6. The members showed their 8-day learning achievements with their works of calligraphy, painting, and facial makeup, the martial arts performances, recitation of Tang poems, and singing of I Love You, China together.

Belarusian students feel children’s passion and vitality at Kindergarten Affiliated to LNU
The energetic University Student Entrepreneurship Training Base, the sculpture Wen Dao (a story about Confucius consulting Laozi about rituals), the homelike Youth Station, and the 100-year-old Banyan Square...Over the past ten days, Belarusian students acquainted themselves with LNU and attended classes just like LNU students. “这个学校很美,我很喜欢(literally meaning ‘This university is beautiful, I like it very much’),” a Belarusian student expressed her inner feelings in Chinese that is unfamiliar to her.

Zhanjiang - a coastal city
The Belarusian students also visited Zhanjiang. Over the past ten days, they were impressed by the sceneries of Zhanjiang, such as the sea, the scorching sun, and the charm of the Confucian Temple during various interesting outdoor activities. They were also marveled by the colorful world of Zhanjiang.

In addition to enjoying the coastal scenery of Zhanjiang, the Belarusian students also picked tropical fruits. When they tasted the sweet pineapple and lychee, they might love Lingnan more.

The Belarusian students paid a visit to Zhanjiang Museum, Zhanjiang TCM Museum, Evergreen Conglomerate and Guangdong ROC Cool & Heat Equipment Co., Ltd. to understand the culture of Zhanjiang culture. “Zhanjiang has a long history and culture,” said a Belarusian student.

The Confucian Cultural City Square echoed with the Chinese song I Love You, China sung by Chinese and Belarusian teachers and students. Belarusian students were touched by the profound Confucius culture and they sung “I like China!” with joy.

Guangzhou




After the ten-day visit to Zhanjiang and LNU, the summer camp members continued to study in Guangzhou. In Guangzhou, the students will visit Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Canton Tower, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Shawan Ancient Town in Panyu District to enjoy more Lingnan sceneries and learn more about Chinese culture.
Meet at LNU, friendship between China and Belarus deepened
Over the past ten days, Chinese and Belarusian teachers and students deepened their friendship in spite of the language barrier. The day when the closing ceremony was held was the birthday of Natallia Kastseyeva, and LNU Vice President Lan Yanze celebrated her birthday with other teachers and students at noon that day.



At the time of parting, Chinese and Belarusian teachers and students gave meticulously prepared gifts to each other, such as photo albums, postcards and bookmarks with unique Chinese characteristics, to show their affection and reluctance to part. At the closing ceremony of the summer camp, Belarusian teachers and students handed out souvenirs and biscuits to every LNU people.

After ten days of short-time and special getting along, participants felt a bit sad at the closing ceremony. After the ceremony, the staff of the summer camp and the Belarusian students took group photos to remember the time they spent together.



At the scene, the reporter asked a lot of Belarusian teachers and students a question - "What do you want to take away from China most?" – and received different answers. Some people wanted to bring Chinese culture back, some wanted to take Chinese tea and some just said, "I will come to China again!"


Tomorrow, the summer camp members will return home, and the cultural journey across the Eurasian continent will also end.
