Lingnan Normal University News Center News: The 2019 Lingnan Normal University Study Abroad Programs Achievement Presentation & Exchange Meeting, organized by the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs), was held in the music hall on the evening of December 12. Dai Shu, Vice President of the Lingnan Normal University (LNU), attended the meeting and encouraged LNU students to broaden international horizons, increase international experience and improve their overall quality.

According to Dai, the goal of education is to cultivate talents. At present, China has moved closer to take the center stage of the world than ever. We must actively participate in international affairs, positively cope with global challenges and strive to make contributions to global development. He said our LNU attaches great importance to the development of the Study Abroad programs and will vigorously respond to national initiatives of nurturing international talents. He also sincerely hopes that LNU students can improve overall quality and employment competitiveness during their study at abroad, so as to win higher reputation for LNU worldwide.

Zheng Zhijun, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs), noted that LNU continues to expand the Study Abroad programs, in an effort to provide more diversified and better opportunities of studying abroad and exchange for students. He wishes LNU students to seize the opportunities and leverage these platforms to show themselves on a broader stage.

Xiao Jianchun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs), introduced the mission and goals of the Study Abroad programs during the meeting. She summarized the development of the programs over the past five years, summed up development situations in 2019, analyzed problems found in daily management and put forward development outlook in the future.

Student representatives reported the achievement of their programs respectively. They come from 12 programs in three categories, namely, the credit recognition exchange program, the paid social work or internship program and the short-term study abroad and exchange program. They all said that they’ve obtained diverse knowledge and professional skills through the study abroad and exchange program, experienced different social customs and cultures and educational methods, and boosted their comprehensive competence and employment competitiveness. What’s more, they have proactively spread the traditional Chinese culture in this process.

During the interaction section, teachers of the program coordination unit such as the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Student Affairs Office, teachers of programs partners and student representatives exchanged opinions with spectators on how to choose a study abroad and exchange program, situations of programs for study in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, and development status of special education in Taiwan as well as other issues.

The event was also attended by leaders and teachers of the Academic Affairs Office, the Student Affairs Office, the Committee of the Communist Youth League of China of LNU and secondary schools at all levels, the China Service Center for Friendship and Cooperation with Foreign Countries, admissions representatives of the University of Western Australia and admissions representatives of the University of Portsmouth.

It’s learned that, in 2019, a total of 311 LNU students have studied in foreign countries including the U.S., the U.K., Belarus, Japan and Thailand as well as the Taiwan region of China.
