On the evening of June 12, the closing ceremony and party of 2017 Summer Camp of Confucius Classroom at Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC) was held at Lingnan Normal University (LNU). Chinese and Belarusian teachers and students gathered together to present their learning results and exchanged their feelings.

Ms. Lan Yanze, Vice President of LNU, delivered a speech at the ceremony. She said, “This summer camp has enabled out two sides to exchange thoughts, ideas and feelings. The exchanges bring us closer.” She hoped that students could bring the positive energy obtained in this summer camp into the future academic study and daily life to harvest more brilliance in their youth. She also expected the participants to actively promote Chinese culture and exchanges between Chinese civilization and other civilizations, and be part of the co-operative construction of Belt and Road Initiative, so that China’s excellent culture can be spread all over the world.

“To my surprise, even if we are far from home, we feel at home at LNU.” said Sofia Kutuzov. She came to China for the first time and experienced personally the profound Chinese traditional culture. She has learnt more about Chinese culture at the summer camp. In the future, she will study Chinese culture with greater enthusiasm and spread Chinese culture. She looked forward to the opportunity to visiting China again.

The summer camp has left a wonderful, memorable, harmonious and united impression on Natallia Kastseyeva, a teacher from BSUPC. She said that the cultural exchange in LNU “made her dream come true”. She believed that the friendly exchange and communication between teachers and students from China and Belarus could break through the barriers of space and language. The two countries, though far apart, can be closer based on mutual respect, mutual understanding and sincere friendship.

Zhao Yong, a student representative of LNU, said, “Foreign students are totally engaged in every class. Their passion for Chinese culture surprises me a lot, and I admire their tolerance towards foreign friends and cultures too.”

During the 13-day summer camp, 20 students and teachers from Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC) participated in ice-breaking games, sports exchanges, national cultural exhibitions, university presentations, and movie viewing. They also had a campus tour at LNU and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Zhanjiang city. During the camp, they joined in a series of courses with traditional Chinese cultural characteristics. These courses include Chinese martial arts, paper cutting, calligraphy, cooking, ancient poetry recitation, traditional Chinese medicine, tea ceremony, folk music, as well as experiential teaching of dragon dance and lion dance.
