It was a sunny day on September 11th local time in Minsk. Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (BSUPC) welcomed a distinguished guest, Mr. Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, the President of Belarus. The Confucius Classroom jointly run by Lingnan Normal University (LNU) and BSUPC was invited to host a unique show of Chinese traditional physical culture for the president.
It happened to be the main polling day for the elections of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Belarus, and BSUPC was the designated polling place for the residence zone where the present Belarusian President lives in. At 11:00 am local time, President Lukashenko came to BSUPC with his son Nikola, who offered flowers to the staff of the Election Commission.
Chinese students from LNU offered audience a variety of Chinese martial arts performances such as Chinese Tai Chi, Wing Chun, Collective Southern Fist, Swordsmanship, Long Fist, etc. The performances were warmly welcomed by the audience.
Meanwhile, children from local martial arts school also performed traditional Chinese martial arts for the audience.
The event was broadcast live on the Belarusian National Television. The Confucius Classroom was invited to give Chinese martial arts performance at such an important national political event. This shows that BSUPC has attached great importance to the Confucius Classroom, and traditional Chinese culture is popular among the local people. This event greatly improves Belarusians’ interests in and passion for learning Chinese culture and language.
