News from LNU News Center: At 4:00 p.m. Beijing time (9:00 a.m. Ireland time) on April 15, the first online meeting for teachers and students of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) and the Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run program in Education of Culinary and Nutrition of LNU was held at the Future Education Space, contributing to the first meeting between students of LNU and teachers of GMIT since the two universities jointly organized the Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run program in Education of Culinary and Nutrition.
In the meeting, Ms. Cáit Noone, Vice President of GMIT, gave a detailed introduction on the campus location, teaching practice, curriculum, cultural environment and training programs. She extended her hope that all students would score an excellent and splendid experience in GMIT. Furthermore, Ms. Jacinta Dalton, Head of Department of Culinary Arts and Service Industries of GMIT, expatiated the campus environment, curriculum and other details.
Zheng Zhijun, Director of the International Exchange & Cooperation Office, said that GMIT and LNU will make joint and best efforts to provide students with optimal resources. He wished that the two universities would set up a broader platform on the basis of the “high starting point” in the future.
Yang Shengyuan, Deputy Dean of the School of Food Science and Engineering (presiding), said that this program is the first Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run program at the undergraduate level of LNU, and he hoped that delegates from both universities may continue promoting the long-term and effective development of the Chinese-foreign cooperative education through more in-depth and sincere teaching-based exchanges and cooperation.
Participants in this meeting included Zheng Zhijun ( Director of the International Exchange & Cooperation Office), Ou Haiqing(Chairman of the Scool Affairs administration of School of Food Science and Engineering), Zheng Houjin (Department-level Counselor of School of Food Science and Engineering), Yang Shengyuan (Deputy Dean of the School of Food Science and Engineering (presiding)), Wang Biaoshi and Hu Xiaojun ( both are Deputy Dean of the College of Food Science and Engineering), Li Zishen (Deputy Director of the International Exchange & Cooperation Office), Cheng Weijie (Section Chief of the International Exchange & Cooperation Office), Huang Yafen, teacher in charge of 2020 International Class 1 of Education of Culinary and Nutrition, Yuan Jiayu(Counselor of the College of Food Science and Engineering),Wang Yao, Program Executor of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, and all students of the 2020 International Class of Education of Culinary and Nutrition.
The Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run program in Education of Culinary and Nutrition jointly organized by LNU and GMIT is known to be the first approved Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run program at the undergraduate level of LNU, aiming to cultivate application-oriented talents with international vision, professional knowledge, practical ability and innovative ability, and capacity to carry out cross-cultural communication, competition and cooperation, to use scientific culinary methods to solve practical problems, and to explore the most cutting-edge culinary techniques and alimentation of Chinese and foreign catering industries, as well as qualifications of nutritionists and teachers in catering business management, college teaching and food and nutrition research institutions. As the program adopts the “3+1” dual-campus education model, qualified graduates may obtain double bachelor’s degree from both universities at the same time. The cooperation by and between GMIT and LNU is of great significance for the universities to accelerate the implementation of internationalization strategy and the cultivation of international talents.
